ActivWall's Original Gas Strut Window

In 2018, homeowner and interior designer, Cassie Klassen of Tennessee had a vision for her kitchen renovation that included a specialty window. She searched all over but could not find any retailer in North America that offered exactly what she was looking for.

After discovering ActivWall online and reading about our products manufactured in Martinsville, Virginia, she inquired if it would be possible for us to make a custom window for her.

Duke Ferrell, President & Founder of ActivWall, recalled, “When Cassie called, we had never heard of a Gas Strut Window. However, after researching the concept, we determined it was something we could make using our existing window technology.”

He added, “we prepared a quote and soon had our very first order for a thermally efficient, ActivWall, aluminum gas strut window.” The team engineered the product, fabricated a design, tested prototypes, and the ActivWall Gas Strut Window was born.

According to Cassie, “I absolutely loved working with ActivWall. Companies that are innovative and ready to help their customers solve problems are always a step ahead. ActivWall was just that. They took my call, listened to my ideas, and then put their expertise to work. They designed and built a fantastic window that became the showcase of our kitchen. We loved how the window allowed us to connect the indoor and outdoor living spaces.”

This original window designed for Cassie measures 90″ wide by 46″ high and features a white powder-coat finish with a flush mount sill. Insulated glass and thermally broken aluminum components allow for high energy efficiency.

ActivWall Gas Strut Windows offer an unobstructed view allowing Cassie to enjoy seeing her back deck and swimming pool from the kitchen.

What makes this window product unique is the gas struts that allow it to open up and out 90 degrees easily. When open, the window creates a perfect bar area for serving and dining. Cassie explained, “I just loved serving my kids breakfast and lunch at the window every day!” When it is time to close the window, she can give it a gentle push from the outside or use ActivWall’s optional pull hook to close it from the inside.

Since renovating her Tennessee home, Cassie relocated with her family to Michigan where she opened her own interior design firm called Cassie Klassen Home. She said, “I definitely plan on many more ActivWall products in my new home as well as in my clients’ spaces!”

The Gas Strut Window is one of ActivWall’s most popular products. Designers have utilized these windows in residential and commercial settings across the nation. It has been seen in House BeautifulRachel Ray Magazine, Wrightsville Beach Magazine, My Domaine, Houzz, and in numerous architect and interior design galleries. Order yours today to open up your space!
