An ActivWall Folding Window is a high-performance, multi-panel, fold-and-slide window system designed to open up large spans of wall in both commercial and residential installations. When open, panels fold and stack to the side to create a wide, unobstructed opening. When closed, the system seals against the weather, locks securely, and provides insulation.
Engineered for weather resistance and structural performance, ActivWall’s Folding Windows are either top-hung or counter-mounted using proprietary motion hardware. Adjustable hinges allow fine adjustments between panels to ensure smooth operation and a tight weather seal.

ActivWall’s products are extensively tested by an independent lab specializing in architectural testing. Test reports are available upon request detailing Design Pressure, Air & Water, and Uniform Structural Load performance. Unit heights, widths, and folding configurations determine performance levels, and individual unit performances may differ compared to the basis of design.
System
ActivWall Folding Windows, are available in four frame systems, depending on whether the unit will be used in an interior or exterior setting.
Exterior Use
• Thermally Broken Aluminum (standard): Frame components provide strength, durability, and flexibility for unique design possibilities. Each unit gets commercial-grade aluminum, even in residential settings. This standard system features thermal breaks for maximum energy efficiency.
• Wood-Clad Aluminum: This system combines the warmth and beauty of wood on the interior with the strength and low maintenance of thermally broken aluminum on the exterior. Combining various wood species on the inside with aluminum finishes on the outside makes design possibilities virtually limitless. The modified aluminum profile accepts a snap-in wood component that can be painted or stained according to the customer’s preference.
Interior Use
• Aluminum: This aluminum system offers the same high-quality frame material as our standard system without thermal breaks. This option is best suited for interior room dividers or other environments that don't require climate control or insulation.
• Wood (interior applications only): The ActivWall wood system uses real hardwood and softwood profiles, not veneered wood. It features precisely engineered stiles and rails for stability, along with an aluminum spline system and adjustable hinges for added strength. Carefully selected solid wood materials on the outside are combined with an engineered core to form a highly stable system that resists wood’s natural tendency to expand, contract, and warp.
Size
Each ActivWall Folding Window is custom-designed for your unique space. Sizes range from 5' wide and 3' high up to 40' wide and 12' high. For wide openings, choose to have multiple smaller units or one continuous opening.
How to Measure:
The width of the “rough opening” is the measurement used – from stud to stud. For the height, the measurement begins at the header and runs to the bottom of the sill channel. If there is currently another window in place, the inside measurements of the current window frame (not the glass) will typically work, although be sure to speak to your ActivWall sales rep about this – images of the opening may be needed to determine the correct measurements.
Configuration
ActivWall Folding Windows can be made Top-Hung or Floor/Counter-Mounted. The top-hung system is our standard design, but when a building's header does not provide enough structural support for a top-hung system, we can build floor-mounted systems that support 90% of the unit's weight at the base.
Folding Windows can be made as a single panel or with horizontal or vertical mullions for added style. They can be made with your choice of an in-swing or out-swing configuration, and center-fold and paired panel configurations are also available. Configurations for each of our folding products are named from the inside looking out, based on the number of panels that fold to the left (L) and right (R).
Combo and Corner Units Available
Our Folding Windows can be customized as combo units that integrate both windows and doors into a single system, and we also offer open-corner designs that create a dramatic, unobstructed transition between spaces.

Sill
We offer five structural sill options for ActivWall Folding Windows:
• Raised Saddle Sill - Offers the highest structural performance and is commercial air and water rated with weep holes for controlled water exfiltration. Suitable for interior and exterior applications. Available for out-swing configurations only.
• Saddle Sill - Offers a high structural performance. It is air and water-resistant with weep holes for controlled water exfiltration. Suitable for Interior and exterior applications.
• Flush Sill - Offers a more minimal look. Has weep holes for controlled water exfiltration, but offers less air and water protection than the above options.
• U-Channel Sill - For interior applications only, this sill is compatible with a variety of configurations, but offers the lowest air and water performance.
• Low Profile Saddle Sill - For interior applications only, this sill is compatible with a variety of configurations. Unlike the saddle sill, It does not offer controlled water exfiltration.
Glazing
The aesthetic of your space is important. Our relationship with several trusted vendors enables us to offer a wide variety of glazing options.
Our Insulated Dual-Pane Low-E Argon-Filled Glass comes standard, offering superior thermal efficiency and comfort. For interior installations where energy efficiency is not a priority, we also offer single-pane glass, providing elegant simplicity for spaces such as sunrooms, offices, and partitions.
For those who desire an elevated level of personalization or performance, we offer premium glass enhancements, including:
• Tinted Glass
• Frosted Glass – Designed for privacy. It can also be used as a writable dry-erase surface.
• Textured Glass
• Printed Glass
• Bird-Resistant & Turtle Safe Glass – These options combine safety with sustainability.
• Impact-Resistant Glass – Engineered for strength and peace of mind in coastal or hurricane-prone regions.
To further enhance aesthetics, you can also add SDLs and GBGs in any pattern. We recommend pairing SDLs and GBGs for the optimal look.
• Simulated Divided Lites (SDL) – narrow metal grids on the exterior of the glass mimic the look of traditional divided lites.
• Grille Between Glass (GBG) – narrow metal grids sandwiched between two layers of glass to complete the look.
Finish
Standard finishes of white, black, and dark bronze are available at no additional charge. Depending on your frame style chosen, ActivWall products can be customized with various other powder coat, anodized, simulated wood-grain, and wood-clad finishes.
• Powder Coat: We offer a range of durable and eco-friendly powder coat finishes available in a selection of vibrant color choices to meet your needs, and we can find and/or match virtually any color for an additional fee.
• Wood Grain Powder Coat: Get the warm look of wood applied to your low-maintenance and durable aluminum system. Wood grain powder coat finishes by Decoral are now available. Just as natural wood species may have distinct color and grain variations, these very realistic simulated finishes can also display character.
• Dual-Tone Finishes: Mix and match your favorite finishes on the interior and exterior of your unit to create a truly custom look.
• Coastal/Poolside Finishes: If your unit will be near a swimming pool or the ocean, ask your sales rep about adding a protective coastal/poolside finish. This consists of a corrosion-protective primer as a base coat and an opaque weather-resistant topcoat. The finish provides excellent corrosion resistance in harsh environments.
• Anodized Finishes: These are primarily used in commercial applications and provide an attractive appearance to match different architectural styles.
Additional Features
A variety of add-on features are available to fully-customize your ActivWall Folding Window unit.
• Hardware - Unlike some other brands, hardware is included with the ActivWall Folding Window. Handles can be finished in the same color as your frame or in a contrasting color for added interest.
• Retractable Screens - We offer a variety of screens from a third-party manufacturer that pull down from the top or pull over from the side. Ask your sales rep for more details.
• Keyed Custodial Locks - For doors in commercial or institutional settings where controlled access is needed, we offer optional custodial locks to prevent opening by unauthorized individuals.
• Additional Fixed Panels - Complete the look with transoms, side lites, or panels designed to coordinate with your Folding Window.
