We’re honored that we had the opportunity to build a custom 40′ wide ActivWall Folding Door for Knotted Oak, a family-owned wedding and event venue nestled on 90 acres in Cascade, Virginia.
The venue’s centerpiece is a large chapel with an equally large covered patio attached. Rustic wood accents, beautiful stonework, and an impressive chandelier create an aesthetic in the chapel and patio that is both elegant and inviting.
The custom doors by ActivWall are designed in a seven left, seven right, outswing configuration. The two center panels can be opened as French Doors for the bridal procession during the ceremony. Transitioning to the reception, the entire expanse of glass panels can fold open to create a seamless flow between the indoor and outdoor entertaining areas.
The thermally broken aluminum frame of the doors is finished in a black powder coat with matching hardware and a saddle sill. The panels are 10′ high, and the insulated glass features a horizontal mullion detail across the top.
While many ActivWall Folding Doors are top-hung, this expansive unit is floor-mounted, which supports 90% of the unit’s weight from the bottom.
ActivWall Folding Doors are custom-designed for commercial and residential spaces ranging in sizes from 5′ to 40′ wide and up to 12′ high. They are available in thermally broken aluminum, wood-clad, or wood systems and can be completely customized to meet your design needs.

This demonstration was filmed as the talented landscapers and builders busily worked to finish the venue in time for their very first wedding. You can even hear the mini excavator clicking along in the background – the sound of progress!
Elegant brick and stone pathways with fountains connect parking, restrooms, and dressing areas to the main chapel.
The restored farmhouse serves as a comfortable dressing area for bridal parties to prepare for their special day.
The venue offers a multitude of areas both indoors and outdoors for wedding festivities and other special events.
