Perched along the banks of the Potomac River in Coles Point, Virginia, Eagles Landing is a custom home designed to feel like it has always belonged to the landscape. Built by Horizon Building Corp, the residence blends timeless architectural character with modern performance—creating what the builders describe as an “Italian-inspired riverside legacy” home centered on relaxation, entertaining, and connection to the water.
From the earliest stages, the project required thoughtful planning and technical precision. Constructing directly near the shoreline meant enhanced foundation preparation was essential to ensure long-term stability in the dense riverside soil. The team also navigated strict zoning regulations that prohibited a detached garage. Their solution was both practical and beautiful: a permanent vestibule that connects the garage structure to the home, maintaining functionality while preserving the architectural integrity of the design.
A Home Designed for Gathering
The homeowners envisioned a place where family and friends could gather comfortably while enjoying the surrounding views of the Potomac. At the heart of that vision is the home’s remarkable screened porch—stretching more than 60 feet long and 15 feet deep.
This expansive outdoor living space offers panoramic river views and provides ample room for dining, lounging, and entertaining throughout the seasons. Whether hosting large gatherings or enjoying a quiet evening by the water, the porch creates an inviting environment that encourages people to linger.
Seamless Indoor–Outdoor Living
Connecting the kitchen to the porch is an ActivWall Gas Strut Window, which transforms the kitchen wall into a fully open pass-through when raised. The 72″ x 57″ window creates an effortless serving station between the indoor kitchen and outdoor entertaining space, allowing food, drinks, and conversation to flow freely between the two areas.
When open, the window removes the barrier between the home’s interior and the expansive porch beyond—blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living. When closed, it maintains the home’s clean architectural lines while providing natural light and views of the river.
