A Gas Strut Window Connects Indoor Comfort with Outdoor Living
When the Walker family set out to renovate their lakeside kitchen in Elkhart, Indiana, they envisioned a space that would seamlessly connect the comforts of their home with the beauty of the outdoors. With help from Michelle Coleman Designs and a custom ActivWall Gas Strut Window, that vision came to life in a stunning and functional way.
Michelle Coleman, the designer behind the transformation, shared, “We couldn’t be more thrilled with how the project turned out, showcasing a beautiful integration of an ActivWall Gas Strut Window. This lakeside home called for a design that would blend indoor comfort with outdoor connectivity, and the ActivWall window delivered on every front.”
Installed on an exterior wall above the kitchen’s wet bar, the Gas Strut Window acts as both a design centerpiece and a functional pass-through to the home’s patio. The window lifts effortlessly to create a bar-style serving area, perfect for entertaining guests, enjoying lake breezes, or sipping coffee on a quiet morning.
Paired with sleek white quartz countertops, warm brass fixtures, and soft neutral cabinetry, the window ties together the design elements of the space while offering practical advantages. The crisp white powder coat finish on the thermally broken aluminum frame complements the home’s aesthetic, both inside and out, and the concealed commercial-grade gas struts allow the window to remain open securely at a 90-degree angle for easy serving.
“We’re proud to have partnered on a project that not only looks stunning but genuinely improves how this family lives in and enjoys their space,” Coleman added.
As the seasons change in Northern Indiana, the Walker family now has a kitchen that not only serves as the heart of the home but also opens up to the beauty of lakeside living, one effortless push at a time.
